A Deadly Week For South Carolina Motorcyclists

SCFlagEye

Every spring, motorcyclists from all over the country ride to South Carolina for some of the world’s most fun motorcycle events.  Why go all the way to Florida when you could just ride in South Carolina, where you can still see beautiful beach views but for lower prices and without the frightening thunderstorms every afternoon?  Locals get to enjoy motorcycle-friendly weather in South Carolina for most of the year, but somehow the most beautiful rides are the ones that take place when the calendar still says that it is spring, but it already feels like summer.  Riding a motorcycle is generally safe; motorcyclists do not get into more collisions than cars do.  When motorcycles crash, though, the chances of avoiding serious injury are lower.  It is never too soon to contact a lawyer about getting compensation for your accident-related medical bills.  If you have recently been injured in a motorcycle accident, contact a Columbia motorcycle accident lawyer.

Fatal Motorcycle Accidents in South Carolina on the Week of May 12

Several fatal motorcycle accidents occurred in South Carolina during the week of May 12, 2024:

  • On May 12, Zackary Lane Clarkson was riding his motorcycle on I-385 in Greenville. As he approached the Woodruff Road exit, his motorcycle veered off the road for reasons that investigators have not yet determined.  The WYFF News 4 website describes the incident as a “single vehicle crash” but did not specify the object with which Clarkson’s motorcycle collided.  Clarkson died of his injuries at the hospital later that day.  He was 23 years old.
  • On the morning of May 13, Thomas Price of Cottageville was riding his motorcycle southbound on Highway 17-A. He collided head on with a dump truck that was driving north.  News reports did not indicate whether either vehicle was in the incorrect lane, but according to the WCBD 2 News website, the dump truck driver, who was not injured in the collision, told police that the accident was not his fault.  Price was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.  He was 25 years old.
  • On May 15, a motorcycle with two people on it was heading west on Highway 544 in Horry County when it collided with a 2016 Subaru at the intersection of Highway 544 and Tiffany Lane. The driver of the motorcycle was hospitalized with injuries, but news sources did not give any additional details about the driver’s name or condition.  The passenger, Tara Posey, died of injuries she suffered in the accident.  Posey was a resident of Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania.  She was 52 years old.

You have the right to seek compensation related to a South Carolina motorcycle accident through the South Carolina courts, even if you live outside Pennsylvania, and regardless of whether the at fault driver receives criminal charges.
